2017 Flower City Challenge Triathalon
Genesee Waterways Center is proud to again share hosting duties of the Duathalon/Triathalon events of the race on Saturday, April 29th. Fleet Feet Sports and Yellow Jacket Racing are a terrific team to work with. They do an amazing job of planning logistics and race-day execution.
The official website of the Flower City Challenge is linked here.
The paddling course mimics the running portion of the coarse. The water course goes North from GWC’s docks, with a turnaround immediately after you pass under an old black railroad bridge (now a pedestrian bridge) that is North of the U of R campus. The total paddle distance is 3.25 miles. The official map of the run/water portion of the race is linked here.
As part of being the host location for the Saturday events, Genesee Waterways Center also permits rental of our kayaks and canoes for the water portion of the race. Pre-registration is absolutely required.

Changes for 2017 are that we have a significantly larger number of kayaks available for rental.
Most of our rental fleet consists of very wide-bodied, stable kayaks. There are 30 available this year.
We also offer race participants (particularly new ones!) an opportunity to go out in the week or two prior to the race for a test run in a boat.
Generally, this also means that we reserve that particular kayak (and life jacket) for you. Advantages are that you know that the boat’s footrests are sized for you. Getting the opportunity to practice the course and know the mechanics of race procedures and how to launch from our floating docks is valuable, too. The cost for the practice run is $20, and you can be out 2 hours. We reserve the right to not allow you to actually go North onto the course if a particular practice day has too high a flow rate. (In 2016 this was never a problem due to slow flow rates).
Advantages to renting a boat from GWC for the race include many conveniences, including the easiness of not having to deal with a boat AFTER the race is over!
Registrations for boat rentals are available at the form below. If you would like to be contacted regarding a practice run, you can indicate that on your form. Any practice run would be a separate excursion and fee.
