Genesee Waterways Center

Welcome to the Genesee Waterways Center! We are a not-for-profit organization located in Western New York State that promotes canoeing, kayaking, rowing and sculling on the unique waterways of the Genesee Region.

At the Boathouse in Genesee Valley Park, you can enroll in one of our rowing, sculling or outrigger canoeing courses.  We have 600 feet of accessible docks that comply with the ADA and are the entry point to the scenic waterways and the trails surrounding GWC. Our rental facility gives people access to canoes, flatwater kayaks, and soon adapted cycles.  From the boathouse you can also walk or bike along the many green trails that connect right from our doorstep.

GWC’s Lock 32 Whitewater Park in Pittsford is the only man-made whitewater course in New York State; at this facility we offer whitewater and flatwater kayaking programs and equipment rentals, swift water rescue training, and ACA instruction certification classes. It is a dynamic park that draws people of all ages to the water!

Thank you to everyone who sponsored, planned, worked and attended our sixth annual Lockapalooza at Lock 32!

The "purpose" behind Lockapalooza is to give experienced paddlers a chance to enter a friendly competition while at the same time introduce spectators to the sport and encourage them to get in a boat and test the waters.
This year we chose to hold the event earlier in the season giving the spectators a longer time span to be able to attend a class before the cold weather hits. After watching the competition, we offered every spectator the chance to come back on Sunday and get a FREE one hour lesson to learn the sport in either Flatwater or Whitewater.

We are very proud of the fact that this year we had more people hop in a boat than ever before! We had over 200 people return to the park on Sunday to find out more information about water sports. Check out the photos of the Erie Canal… at one time we counted over 35 of our boats including flatwater, whitewater and sprint kayaks in the water at one time. To see that many new kayak enthusiasts was impressive!

"Bringing people to the water" is what GWC is all about and Lock 32 proved it at Lockapalooza.

Thank you to our Sponsors: Wegmans, Vital Signs and Graphics, World Class Kayak Academy, RPS Screen Printing, Hoselton Automall and Doyle Chevrolet and Subaru for making Lockapalooza possible.

Paddling to New Heights Campaign

Lock 32 Capital Campaign
Genesee Waterways' Lock 32 is entering it’s tenth year on the Historic Erie Canal.   Lock 32 was developed by a group of individuals that had one vision in mind, getting people in the water experiencing something new and encouraging them to go out of their comfort zone.  Lock 32 operates as part of the Genesee Waterways Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and has become an unique resource in the Rochester area. In 1996 the work started on the whitewater park and over the next five years many kayakers and supporters donated time, labor and money to make the dream a reality.  This year we have put up the new building that will house the future classes and development of our area’s kayaking community.  Over the past six months, over a hundred people have donated time and funds to make the building and the improvements to the trail and grounds possible.

In order to keep the Lock moving in the right direction, Lock 32 is reaching out to all of you that have been a part of our community over the years and asking you to contribute to our Paddling to New Heights Campaign.  Click here to donate online.
