Volunteer Projects at Lock 32

This will be an ongoing list is for those who wish to volunteer your time at the Lock when it is most convenient for you. There are days when groups will be working – to find out about a specific group work day, you can call Andy Cook at 747-8478. We are short of equipment and tools for working. Also, you might not like what we do have for use! If you have a favorite pair of lopping sheers or clippers that will make your volunteer experience an easy one, please bring them along! Thanks!

  • All brush, weeds and vines located on the south banks of the course need to be removed. This area is covered with heavy stone and rock, so there is no need to worry about erosion. Future maintenance for site hosts and site lines for instruction will be vastly improved.

  • Where the brush has already been cut, but not removed, these need to be moved over to the north side of the trail (you will notice those areas we used in the past for “composting” brush and wood).

  • The last drop on the course has an area where boaters exit the course. A set of stairs needs to be built with pressure treated lumber and stakes. This is a perfect world scenario, but lumber and metal rods will (hopefully) be available for this project – and we would also like to have the materials cut and ready for you.

  • There are areas along the pathways to the course that need reinforcement with logs as they are slowly following gravity’s pull downward. Tons of natural material that can be found on and around the site for this type of work, so, if you have the will and the skill, we appreciate the help with this task!

  • We currently store excess building materials underneath the trailer. Too much water pools there and it becomes a muddy mess. We need to find another creative way to store wood, slalom stakes and scrap neatly behind the trailer. Your ideas will be helpful!

  • The kiosk needs painting! Posts and the border need staining and the area for display needs to be primed. Materials will be located on site, in the trailer. If you want to do this, one of us will happily meet and open the trailer.

more to come… thanks!
