Kayak Clean Up - RTR Weekend

Saturday, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Join Genesee RiverWatch and the Genesee Waterways Center in celebrating ROC the Riverway Weekend with a paddle focused on environmental stewardship. We will partner with the Seneca Park Zoo and use tools to collect trash out of the Genesee River. Bring your friends and help us keep the Genesee River beautiful! Meet: Genesee Waterways Center, 149 Elmwood Ave. Ages 10 and up. All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

ROC Exploration Weekend Discounts!

Come join us during ROC Exploration weekend for a discount on a kayak rental! Bring your student ID to enjoy 20% off of a kayak rental - on Saturday September 14th and Sunday September 15th.

Only valid during these open hours:

Saturday September 14th 12:00pm - 7:00pm (last boats go out at 5:00pm)

Sunday September 15th 12:00pm - 7:00pm (last boats go out at 5:00pm)

Normal rental price: $25 per person. With 20% discount: $20 per person

Not open on Friday September 13th

Pay when you arrive; our staff will provide you with life jacket (PFD), paddle, and kayak. No experience necessary. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All paddlers are required to sign a waiver upon arrival.

Open paddling days may be cancelled in the event of inclement or hazardous weather or river conditions.

Saturday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. - For experienced paddlers. Take in the stunning Rochester City Skyline from the comfort of a kayak! Join our guided tour as we paddle past Corn Hill Landing to the Ford Street bridge on the Genesee River, offering you a one-of-a-kind perspective of the cityscape. This paddle starts and ends at Genesee Waterways Center. Ages 10 and up. All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This journey is over 4 miles long and requires endurance and paddling efficiency!

Salmon River Trip - Whitewater Kayaking

Have you taken an introductory class but want to know what’s next for you in your whitewater kayaking adventure? Then you are invited to join Lock 32 Paddling Center on the thrilling Salmon River located in Pulaski, New York. The Salmon River is the perfect place for beginner to intermediate kayakers to learn the basic skills of river running. The Salmon River is a class two, three river with many different rapids, progressively challenging you as you go down stream. You will spend at least four hours navigating the 4-mile stretch of river, a great place to have your first river running experience!

If you are worried that you have lost your skills since your last class don’t worry, we have warm up sessions included to get you back in your boat to feel loose and ready for the adventure that lies ahead.

For all classes, please bring swimwear, sunscreen, thin soled water shoes that will stay on in the current, snacks, and WATER! On cooler days fleece base layers are a great asset. NO COTTON PLEASE!

Thursday warm-up July 18th 5:30-7:30, and July 20th is the Salmon trip starting at 9:00 am. Itinerary provided upon sign up.

Learn to Kayak Ice Cream Social - FULL

Friday, June 28, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.: Learn to Kayak Ice Cream Social! REGISTRATION IS FULL, SOLD OUT! Bring the whole family down to the Genesee Waterways Center at 149 Elmwood Avenue.  We are conveniently located on the RTS bus line, by car with free parking and via the recreational trail system.  Join us to learn how to paddle while enjoying live music on the dock! There will be fun nature based activities both on and off the water, and participants will receive a FREE ice cream from Lugia’s Ice Cream! This event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required to kayak and to receive an ice cream ticket.  

This event is funded in part with support from the NYS Canal Corporation and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.
